The Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising

So I came across The Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising in one of travel books of London and thought it would be something different to check out while in London especially since I’m a designer. Well I never made it there as the bus had many diversions as the Londoners would say and I was led in the wrong direction several times, and my map was useless. This was something I really wanted to check out so I may have to take another trip out there. However it lead me to Portobello Road which had a whole bunch of antique shops, trinkets, art work and food.

Wegman’s

While shopping at Wegman’s I came across this beautuful type driven pakaging/labels for Volpi’s Italian salami. I really love the color palette and type treatment.

Green Depot was another stop on our Cool Hunting tour. Green Depot is a store which carries environmentally friendly, sustainable and “green” products. I really enjoyed the design of the interior space as well as the packaging design of the various products. I also thought the use of type with the paint cans was very interesting and instantly grasped my attention.

J.R. Watkins

I came across this cool environmentally friendly cleaner when shopping at Target. I really liked the package/label design of J.R. Watkin’s compared to other cleaning products. This is why design matters.

Hello Kitty for MAC Cosmetics

Hello Kitty posing for my iPhone at the Macy’s in Herald Square counter. Hello Kitty cosmetics from MAC consist of nail polish, eye shadow, lip stick etc. I just really liked the packaging and the dressed up Hello Kitty.

EAT.

eat

During my undergraduate studies EAT was a branding system which was studied and discussed in many of my classes. So when I was in London and able to see the signage/interior design as well as the packaging it was much more fufilling then seeing it in a textbook. EAT’s branding system was designed by Pentagram .

Burberry

I was fortunate to receive a gift for Christmas from Burberry. I was more excited about the packaging then the gifts. Amazing packaging and logo.

Rick Shaw’s

I recently discovered Rick Shaw’s at the AIGA Dinner Party Event Both the event and the food vendors were awesome. When dining at Rick Shaw’s I loved the sticker of the logo they put on your plate in addition the dipping sauces have a sticker on them that say “dip me” and the salad dressing says “pour me.” I thought this was a great use of the Rick Shaw Brand. A very clever branding strategy to simplify directions into words and stick them on the product. Rick Shaw’s brand is integrated from unique stickers, its interior restaurant design and it’s website. And of course the delicious dumplings! Picture courtesy of Rick Shaw’s

This Water

This Water

Decisions. We are all faced with them on any given day. A simple decision such as what to type of water or beverage to purchase (especially in another country). Some would buy the cheapest, others would base it off of prior experience, brand reputation and personally I  based my decision on which one I found most appealing. In this instance I chose This Water. This Water a UK based refreshment drinks company which re-branded their current refreshment drinks and gave them their own identity This Water. It’s a pretty interesting to see how giving a product it’s own identity really makes and sells the brand. Decisions. We are all faced with them on any given day. Whole Foods and Jordans

Jordans Cereal

Whole Foods Interior Signage

I recently took a trip to London and Belgium and came across many interesting signage and packaging. Some of the places I knew of prior to my trip and others I discovered on my trip there. It was interesting to see chain stores and restaurants and how their branding is adapted differently based on region. With this in mind I went to the Whole Foods on Kensington High Street. The store front was much different than the ones I am used to seeing here in the United States and had unique packaging for Jordan’s cereal. Feel free to check out there website Jordans. Also the dinning area in this Whole Foods were a lot different than the Whole Foods in the U.S. The signs for the different food stations were typographically driven.
