Thomas Pink

Last Thursday and Friday Thomas Pink gave out 1,000 men’s and women’s  dress shirts to promote USA’s new TV show White Collar.
They had tailors to custom fit the shirts at the Madison Avenue location as well as cast members from the show. This is a unique use of partnership and branding.

Print Icon’s Wishboard

I was running errands in the city and passed Print Icon one of my favorite paper and stationery stores. What made me stop and look in their window was the bright colored rolled up paper that formed flowers on this corrugated like board. The idea behind the wishboard is to write a a wish on the paper roll it up and place in the wishboard. What is unique is that you can use a variety of colors and form shapes and objects with the colored paper.

Surprise! Surprise!

On my way to Luzzo’s I saw this store Surprise! Surprise. I wondered what this store was all about. I never heard of this store. It is located in East Village on 91 3rd Avenue. Surprise! Surprise! is a home goods store packed with all kinds of random things from small appliances, furniture, dishes to paperwares. Definitely check it out in the area!

Hush

I some how came across Hush, a creative multi-disciplinary studio with work ranging in animation, interactive content for TV, music videos, broadcast, and integrated campaigns. Hush is based in Brooklyn, NY. I really enjoyed their range and creativity throughout their work. Check out their 2009 Reel.

Borders

In the past few years I’ve noticed a lot of retail stores like Borders making recommendations to their consumers based on their interests/previous purchases. This is a unique way to engage consumers on a personal level. You see this more online at sites like Amazon. I think it is a good idea to do this in stores as well.

NHL 2K10 Zamboni in NYC

A few days ago a friend of mine told me he saw a Zamboni driving in the streets on Manhattan. Yeah the machine that comes out and resurfaces the ice in hockey games on the streets of Manhattan?! The NHL was promoting a new video video game NHL 2K10 by having Alex Ovechkin drive a NHL branded Zamboni up 6th Avenue to the NHL Store. It was a pretty unique advertising strategy. Videos can be found on NHL’s website of this event.

Williams Sonoma

I went to Williams Sonoma recently and came across this beautifully designed BBQ sauce packaging. The typography treatment is what drew me to these bottles immediately. I am assuming it tastes as good as the type looked. I also thought it was clever to display them in a basket in the store to give it a summer,
BBQ, picnic feel.
