AIGA’s upcoming exhibition Design Journeys: You Are shines a light on the careers of 25 designers from a variety of backgrounds, whose own lives and experiences demonstrate the ideal combination of diversity and excellence. Visitors will also be encouraged to consider their own journeys and place in design.

The exhibition is free and open to the public from May 20–July 23, 2010 at AIGA.

Tim Burton’s exhibit at MoMA will open on November 22, 2009 and will be up until April 26, 2010. This exhibition will display Burton’s career of a film director, producer, writer and artist through a variety of mediums: drawings, paintings, storyboards, puppets and maquettes, and sketchbooks to name a few.

On Friday night I went to the Park Avenue Armory to see Ernesto Neto’s exhibit anthropdino. The room was filled of translucent material forming an enormous canopy that you could walk through with strands of it hanging down filled with different spices such as cayenne. There were also areas that you could lay in made out of material of a bean bag chair. There were other areas filled with balls for children to play in. You can see how this exhibit was installed on the Park Avenue Armony’s website. It is pretty interesting!

Mannahatta is an exhibiton demonstrating the natural history of Manhattan when Hudson first arrived in 1609. It will show all the natural plant and animal life. This exhibit is held at the Museum of the City of New York through May 20, 2009 – October 12, 2009. This exhibit was inspired by the book Mannahatta: A Natural History of New York City by Eric W. Sanderson.

I attended the opening night “Art on Record” at the APW Gallery in Long Island City, Queens. A friend of mine Sarah Panetta submitted her records which are in the above image along with the other submissions. Feel free to check out her work and the other submissions.

May 14, 2009 – January 4, 2010, Cooper Hewitt

I was recently at Princeton University’s Design For Social Causes Conference and Abbott Miller of Pentagram spoke about an exhibition “Design for a Living World.” This exhibit will feature ten leading designers have been commissioned to develop new uses for sustainably grown and harvested materials in order to tell a unique story about the life-cycle of materials and the power of conservation and design. This exhibition will be at the Cooper Hewitt from May 14 2009 – January 4, 2010. via Cooper Hewitt

I recently went to PS1 which is owned my MOMA in Long Island City, Queens.
The exhibit “Swimming Pool” by Leandro Erlich is like no other. A full deck was built with an inground swimming pool. Originally when looking down into the pool it looked just like a real inground swimming pool. Then once I went downstairs there was an entrance where one can go “inside” the pool and look up and see the top of  the pool. Hence the reason for the people being in the photograph looking down into the pool.
